I think very few golfers allow their real personality to be seen, because they do not want to risk losing their lucrative endorsement contracts. Yes, there are a few of them out there. Vijay Singh didn't care who he offended when he refused to play with Annika at the Colonial. But that was more of an exception than a rule.<BR/><BR/>As far as Phil is concerned (and I won't deny that I'm a fan of not only Phil, but the entire big 5, and most of the top 10), I am not completely sure that his smile is fake. Sometimes I do think they go a bit far (for instance, keeping the commentators on edge), but The Masters is such a slice of Americana that I think it would be a mistake to try to deviate from the wholesome image.<BR/><BR/>As for Phil... I don't think its fair to single him out as a "phony". I don't think the fans see the REAL Tiger either.
